Simple One electric scooter compared with its chief rivals

Simple Energy, a Bengaluru-based electric vehicle startup, announced its electric scooter in 2021 and even started accepting bookings for the scooter. However, due to several reasons, the launch got delayed. Finally, Simple Energy recently launched its first product, the Simple One electric scooter, in the market. The Simple One scooter was launched with a price tag ranging from Rs 1.45 lakh to Rs 1.50 lakh, ex-showroom. In the last couple of years, the number of electric two-wheelers that we see on the roads has increased. Several new manufacturers have entered the market and captured customers’ attention, including Ola. In this article, we will compare the newly launched Simple One, Ola S1 Pro, and Ather 450X electric scooters in detail.

Price

As we all know, India is a price-sensitive market, and due to the rise in the cost of raw materials and other manufacturing expenses, the prices of two-wheelers and four-wheelers have increased over the years. However, manufacturers still strive to competitively price their products. In this case, the Simple Energy One scooter is priced starting at Rs 1.45 lakh, ex-showroom. The Ola S1 Pro is priced at Rs 1.24 lakh, ex-showroom, and the Ather 450X starts at Rs 98,000 and goes up to Rs 1.28 lakh, ex-showroom. Among these three models, the Simple One is currently the most expensive.

Battery Capacity & Range

As the Simple One is the latest addition to this category, let's discuss it first. The Simple One electric scooter is equipped with a 5 kWh lithium-ion battery that claims to have a range of 212 km with 6 percent state of charge (SOC) remaining. On the other hand, the Ola S1 Pro electric scooter features a 4 kWh battery pack and offers a certified riding range of 181 km. The Ather 450X, with its 3.7 kWh battery pack, has a certified range of 146 km. When it comes to battery capacity and certified range, the Simple One outperforms its competitors by a significant margin.

Acceleration

One thing that everyone associates with EVs is their fast acceleration. The Simple One is equipped with an electric motor that generates 8.5 kW of power and 72 Nm of torque. This scooter can accelerate from 0 to 40 km/h in 2.77 seconds and has a claimed top speed of 105 km/h. On the other hand, the Ola S1 Pro features an electric motor that generates 5.5 kW and 58 Nm of torque. The Ola S1 Pro has a claimed top speed of 116 km/h. The Ather 450X, on the other hand, has an electric motor that generates 3.3 kW of power and 26 Nm of peak torque. It has a top speed of 90 km/h, which is the lowest among the three.

Features

The Simple One comes with a 7-inch TFT display that can be connected to a phone via Bluetooth. The rider can control navigation and music through the display. The scooter offers Eco, Ride, Dash, and Sonic ride modes. Additionally, the scooter provides a 30-liter underseat storage compartment.

The Ola S1 Pro also features a 7-inch touch display with features like WiFi and 4G connectivity. The screen supports maps, and the rider can control the music. Voice commands are also supported. Furthermore, Ola offers the largest underseat storage with a capacity of 36 liters.

Similarly, the Ather 450X is equipped with a 7-inch display. Depending on the chosen variant, customers can opt for either a greyscale or color TFT display. The touchscreen unit supports various connected features.

Styling

Ather was the first to introduce a made-in-India electric scooter. The design of the Ather 450X is sleek, sporty, and has a futuristic look. On the other hand, the Ola S1 Pro, as we all know, is based on the Netherlands-based Etergo scooter. Its design sets it apart from other electric scooters in the market, which has helped the manufacturer attract some customers. The recently launched Simple One scooter appears to be inspired by the design of the Ather 450X.
